Public Prosecutor exercises supervision over the legality of pre-trial criminal proceedings.

In trial they represent the prosecution, present evidence and propose how the defendant should be punished.

In the courtroom they take position by the right hand of the judge, i.e. on the opposite side to the accused person and their defense counsel.

You may recognize them in court also by the black gown with wine-red hem.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office shall represent public prosecution in penal proceedings; it shall also perform other duties, if the law so provides.

The position and the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office shall be defined by law.
