International Association of Prosecutors (IAP)

The International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) is a non-governmental and apolitical organization and at the same time the only world-wide organization of Public Prosecutors, which has undertaken to improve the standards of professional conduct and ethics of Public Prosecutors all around the world, to supporting the rule of law, justice, observing human rights and improvement of international cooperation. It was established in year 1995 in Vienna. The impulse for its establishment was the increase of international crime, in particular money laundering, drug trafficking and fraudulent conduct.

IAP objectives:

  • to support just, impartial and effective prosecution of criminal offences,
  • to respect and protect human rights,
  • to assist public prosecutors at the international level in their fight against organized crime and other serious forms of criminal activity and for this purpose facilitate international cooperation in the area of collection and provision of evidence, observation, monitoring, seizure and confiscation of proceeds of serious crime, and to facilitate speed and efficiency of such international cooperation,
  • to support provisions for elimination of corruption in the public administration,
  • to simplify the exchange and distribution of information between public prosecutors and prosecution authorities,
  • to support exchange of professional knowledge and best practices and for these purposes to cooperate with international organizations.

Its members for the Czech Republic are the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Union of Public Prosecutors of the Czech Republic.
